The 2015 edition of our Facilitator Training was held on Friday, November 13th & Saturday, November 14th, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The first purpose of this training was to educate people who have experienced the loss of a loved one through death about the Programs & Services offered by Bereaved Families. We then had speakers share their personal experience of their loss (Loss of a spouse, child, parent, sibling and loss to suicide) and the strategies that have helped them deal with their grief. The next component explained the different types of grief (Anticipatory Grief, Traumatic Grief, Disenfranchised Grief and Complicated Grief).
The final objective was to present candidates with “Active Listening Skills” so that they are better equipped to listen to our clients and able to facilitate our various Support Groups.
We were blessed with 12 open-minded, kind-hearted candidates attending this session. We learned, we laughed, we cried, we questioned, we shared our losses and feelings, and created heartfelt connections that will carry us through our goal: “Bereaved Helping the Bereaved”.
Bereaved Families would like to thank the “Knox St. Paul’s United Church” community for the use of their building, which is the perfect location for such an activity, and for their help and support.
We hope that the bereaved of Cornwall will take advantage of the Programs & Services offered by our agency.
