Organization: Bereaved Families of Ontario – South-Eastern Region
Location: Cornwall, Ontario
Bereaved Families of Ontario – South Eastern Region, BFO-SER, (previously Cornwall) is an affiliate of Bereaved Families of Ontario and has been in operation since November 1985. It has become the major local source for bereavement support, resources and information in Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry.
Bereaved Families of Ontario – South Eastern Region is a registered charitable organization.
Bereaved Families of Ontario – South-Eastern Region is currently looking for individuals that are passionate about contributing to our mission to join and volunteer on our Board of Directors,
We are seeking individuals with the following skill(s) and experience(s):
- Must have experienced bereavement
- Marketing or communications
- Volunteer coordination
- Non-profit management
- Financial management or accounting
Term: 2 year commitment
Location: Cornwall, ON – most meetings are virtual
Start date: On a rolling basis
Time Commitment: Approximately 6 hours per month total (1.5hr board meeting/month and 1-1.5 hrs/week engaging in emails, reading materials, and committee meetings)

As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy its fiduciary duties, the Board as a whole is responsible for:
- Determining the mission and purposes of the organization
- Selecting and evaluating the performance of the Executive Director
- Strategic and organizational planning
- Ensuring strong fiduciary oversight and financial management
- Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements
- Fundraising and resource development
- Monitoring BFO-SER’s impact
- Enhancing BFO-SER’s public image
- Assessing its own performance as the governing body of BFO-SER
Individual Board Member Expectations:
- Know the organization’s mission, policies, programs, and needs
- Serve as active advocates and ambassadors for the organization and fully engage in identifying and securing financial resources and partnerships necessary for BFO-SER to advance its mission
- Prepare for and attend monthly board meetings
- Assist Board Chair in recruiting other Board Members, as needed
- Follow the organization’s bylaws, policies, and board resolutions
- Disclose potential conflicts of interest during meetings and maintain confidentiality about all internal matters of BFO-SER
- Serve and/or Chair on committees, as needed
